FGCC was established in 1859 to focus on teaching the Bible and help Christian disciples (disciple = student) live their lives by the teachings of Jesus Christ found within the New Testament. This is still our purpose and goal; to teach the New Testament, and help believers incorporate it into their daily life choices. Jesus Christ summed up God’s expectations for believers in two laws: Matthew 22:37-40 New International Version

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

As a child we demonstrated our love for our parents when we obeyed their instructions. In the same way, we demonstrate our love for God as we seek to follow his commands.

Forest Grove Christian Church - Mission Statement:

Forest Grove Christian Church is dedicated to the authority of Jesus Christ and the Scriptures. We endeavor to fulfill the Great Commission through evangelism, service, fellowship, discipleship, and nurturing.

FGCC seeks to help those who desire to be a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, to know God’s love, his presence in helping us through the ups - and - downs of life. When 'life happens' we do not have to face it alone; whether it be a mountain top or a chasm; God wants us to know he is with us. He will not forsake us, or abandon us, as long as we are seeking to be his disciple. As members of FGCC, we seek to offer help to meet needs of members of the congregation and community, to be used by God to help others know of his love. We also help through agencies to assist those around the world who have suffered tragedies. FGCC has a congregational structure. It is lead by elders, elected by the congregation working with the minister. There is a governing board consisting of elders, minister, deacons and members of the congregation. FGCC supports mission work and social agencies locally and around the world in cooperation with other congregations.

Some of the early slogans of the Christian Church movement were:

• “Where the Bible speaks, we speak; where the Bible is silent, we are silent.”
• “In faith unity, in opinion liberty, in all things love.”
• “We are not the only Christians, but Christians only.”
